Rising Memphis-based singer-songwriter Steven Christopher, who first captivated audiences with his viral single “Only One”, has just released his brand-new single, “Do U Right”. Known for his smooth vocals and infectious hooks, Steven continues to make waves with this sexy, dark and hypnotic R&B earworm.
Steven Christopher initially gained popularity on YouTube, where his covers amassed millions of views, before transitioning into writing his own material and mastering music production. His remixes of other artists’ songs have also gained attention from the artists themselves like Normani who put her stamp of approval on his remix of her Billboard Top 10 hit “Wild Side”. He recently gained further recognition with the viral Collide TikTok challenge, which featured his sped-up vocals and generated over three million dance videos.
Speaking on his new single, Steven says, “‘Do U Right’ is a sonic change for me. I fell in love with music again making this song – the musicality of it. It also helped me turn a not-so-great situation of not being recognised for my vocals on TikTok by creating art around it. It’s a fun, playfully sexy rollercoaster ride of a song.”
Reflecting on the creative process, Steven continues, “I sampled my vocals from the Collide challenge on TikTok and produced the track around it – lots of ambient piano and layers of guitar. I was deeply inspired by the making of ‘Thriller’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Dirty Diana’ while writing and producing the song.”
