Dynamic Boston-based artists Kmawa and William Wallace have teamed up once again to deliver their latest musical endeavour, the mesmerising single, “On the Low”. The single is lifted from their joint EP, Detaching, which arrived in December 2023.

Kmawa, a talented singer, producer and audio engineer, draws inspiration from his unique background growing up in an Indian family in South Carolina. Fuelled by a diverse musical palette at home, he developed a deep love for R&B, especially influenced by iconic artists like Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. Kmawa’s journey into music became a form of expression and self-discovery, challenging stereotypes as a Desi artist raised in the South, now crafting alternative R&B in Boston. William Wallace, an interdisciplinary artist, rapper and producer, brings his own rich experiences into the collaboration. Influenced by artists such as J Dilla, Kanye West and J. Cole, Wallace’s music is a fusion of soulful sample chops, smooth vocals and introspective lyrics.

Although residing in Boston for the past decade, Kmawa and William Wallace only crossed paths in 2018, igniting a creative partnership that led to memorable tracks like “Don’t Walk Away” and “Race Over Samosas”. Bonding over shared musical influences and a love for soul samples, hip-hop and whiskey, the two artists seamlessly blend their talents in their unique sound, a fusion of ‘90s hip-hop and R&B with a modern twist.

The recently released single, “On the Low”, showcases the duo’s ability to craft a hopeful, laidback and cool hip-hop/R&B track that will resonate with fans of artists such as J. Cole, Little Brother and Mac Miller. Directed by Tim Barry, the accompanying music video complements the vibe of the song, offering a visual feast for fans.

Speaking about the new single, Kmawa and William Wallace say, “In an industry dominated by content creators pressured to create and follow a prescribed narrative for success, happiness comes when you approach music on your own terms and take your time with it.”

“On the Low” is a testament to Kmawa and William Wallace’s commitment to creating authentic, genre-defying music that resonates with a broad audience. With their EP, Detaching, making waves, the duo is poised to leave an indelible mark on the music scene, challenging conventions and crafting a sound uniquely their own.
