Review: Gianna Alessi’s “Soft” Is A Tender Ode To Slowing Down

Gianna Alessi returns with “Soft”, a tranquil yet deeply stirring single that sets the tone for her upcoming EP, Soft n’ Lush. With a sound that blends dreamy alt-R&B with soul-inflected synthscapes, the track feels both intimate and expansive, like a breath of fresh air in a hyper-digital world.

Co-produced with Rich Emery and polished by Daniel Neiman (mixing) and Dan Millice (mastering), “Soft” is a sonic embrace. It glides on a smooth groove, layered with celestial harmonies and understated production choices that never overpower the song’s emotional weight. Alessi’s voice is the centrepiece throughout, graceful yet commanding in its sincerity.

Lyrically, “Soft” is a gentle protest against the burnout culture of the 9-5 grind. Alessi contrasts the beauty of “green grass” and “fresh fruit and water” with the monotony of paychecks and screens. The refrain, “Stay soft / Give myself rest / Give myself time”, becomes a mantra of self-preservation, urging listeners to resist becoming numb in a world obsessed with productivity.

What makes “Soft” stand out is its ability to feel like both a lullaby and a call to action. It doesn’t just lament the toll of modern life; it offers a way forward through tenderness and trust. The song’s title is not a weakness but a strength, an intentional choice to remain emotionally open when it’s easier to shut down.

With this first glimpse into Soft n’ Lush, Gianna Alessi proves she’s not just crafting beautiful music but creating space for reflection and care. “Soft” is a much-needed reminder that vulnerability can be powerful and even healing.
