Mnelia, the London-based singer-songwriter, has once again graced us with her captivating vocals and heartfelt lyricism in her latest single and video release, “Genesis Remix”. This track is part of her Closure Tapes EP, a project that showcases her growth as an artist and her ability to explore the depths of R&B. Directed by Sahra Zadat, the accompanying visuals perfectly capture the essence of the song, featuring Mnelia alongside R&B powerhouses Bellah, Miraa May and Joyce Wrice, all radiating with undeniable talent and style.

With the release of “Genesis (Remix)”, Mnelia continues to demonstrate her command over the R&B genre. The remix brings together a formidable lineup of artists who complement each other’s strengths effortlessly. Miraa May, Bellah and Joyce Wrice lend their own unique flavors to the track, enhancing its sonic richness and adding layers of depth to the original version. It’s evident that Mnelia carefully selected her collaborators, as their chemistry shines through, creating an atmosphere that is both empowering and emotionally resonant.

The production of “Genesis (Remix)” is top-notch, thanks to Mnelia’s long-term collaborators Gustav Landell and Albin Tengblad. They have crafted a soundscape that perfectly supports the artists’ performances, blending smooth R&B melodies with a hint of nostalgia from the ’90s. Mnelia’s ethereal vocals are a standout, capturing the listener’s attention from the first note. Her voice effortlessly conveys the raw emotions embedded within the lyrics, allowing the audience to connect with her experiences.

Lyrically, “Genesis (Remix)” explores the concept of imposter syndrome, a struggle that many creatives face. Mnelia fearlessly opens up about her own journey, proclaiming her liberation from self-doubt and embracing her true potential. Lines like “Since I freed my mind I been focussed ever since” reflect her determination to overcome obstacles and thrive in her artistry. This level of honesty and vulnerability is a testament to Mnelia’s growth as both a songwriter and a person.

The Closure Tapes EP, which features other standout tracks like “Closure” and “White Lies”, serves as a heartbreak diary, documenting Mnelia’s experiences as a new mother and her emotional journey through love and loss. Each song represents a different stage of heartbreak, from the initial pain to acceptance, providing a relatable narrative for anyone who has experienced the complexities of love. Mnelia’s dedication to speaking from the heart is evident throughout the project, and her ability to convey such genuine emotions is a testament to her artistry.

Having already impressed audiences with her previous releases and notable performances at festivals like Wireless and Reading & Leeds, Mnelia is poised to make an even bigger impact this year following “Genesis (Remix)”. And fans can surely expect much more remarkable music from this R&B powerhouse, as she continues to push boundaries and explore new dimensions of her craft.
