Tamaraebi, the genre-fluid artist born in Lagos and now based in London, has graced us with his emotive new single, “Sweet Summers Day”. Following the critical acclaim of his previous project, Spectrum, Tamaraebi continues to push the boundaries of his artistry and transport listeners to a place of deep emotion and introspection.

“Sweet Summers Day” weaves a heartfelt narrative of yearning, inviting us on a poignant journey to a place where life once flowed effortlessly or an imagined future where serenity reigns. From the very first notes, Tamaraebi’s voice envelops you in its unique and captivating warmth, transporting you to another dimension. Tamaraebi describes his sound as “futuristic nostalgia”, a term that perfectly encapsulates the sensation of familiarity intertwined with innovation that is present in his music.

On “Sweet Summers Day”, Tamaraebi’s lyrics are more than just words; they are a heartfelt revelation of his inner thoughts and emotions. As he explains, the song was recorded in a single take during a phase of uncertainty in his life, a time when he grappled with questions about his life’s path, his artistic journey and self-discovery. The chorus, symbolising renewal and self-acceptance through rain and the cleansing nature of water, is delivered with a raw and soulful intensity that resonates deeply. “So take me to the river / Let the rain fall down and wash away the sin”, he sings.

Tamaraebi’s road to becoming a musician is a story of passion and destiny. Born to parents who moved frequently, he experienced diverse cultures and sounds in places such as Kenya, Sudan and Tanzania. After moving to the UK, it was in Leeds, at the age of 16, that he discovered his love for music, particularly hip-hop. After studying law at Leeds University, he followed his heart to London, where he immersed himself in the vibrant live music scene of east London. It didn’t take long for him to realise that music was his true calling, and he began pursuing it with unwavering determination.

“Sweet Summers Day” is not just a song; it’s a testament to Tamaraebi’s journey so far and the power of self-discovery and renewal, leaving us in awe of his talent and eagerly anticipating what’s to come on his forthcoming EP. The single is a must-listen, offering a glimpse into the mind of an artist with a bright future ahead.
