Cabra is clearly having fun on his latest single, “Whats The Word?”, and that energy is what makes the track such an easy listen. Blending the smooth bounce of early-2000s R&B with a modern UK rap approach, the Essex artist delivers a feelgood record built for warm weather, late-night drives and repeat plays.

From the jump, the production carries a nostalgic flavour. Fans of the slick, groove-heavy sound that dominated the charts 25 years ago will immediately hear those influences. Rather than simply recreating that sound, though, Cabra gives it a contemporary twist, pairing it with a relaxed flow and plenty of UK personality.

The track’s biggest strength is its hook. “She like ‘What’s the word?’ I told her ‘ES6′” is the kind of line that sticks after a single listen. It has that effortless, conversational feel that makes the best pop and rap records work. The chorus rolls around naturally and never overstays its welcome.

Lyrically, Cabra keeps things playful throughout. References to TLC, Nelly, Jet Li and Mel B are scattered across the song, helping to reinforce the nostalgic atmosphere while adding a bit of character. There are plenty of witty one-liners too, with Cabra delivering them in a laid-back style that sounds confident without trying too hard.

What also stands out is how polished the record feels. The production is clean, the melodies are catchy and the pacing never drags. It all comes together to create a track that feels effortless without sacrificing its commercial appeal.

“Whats The Word?” isn’t trying to overcomplicate things, and it doesn’t need to. It’s a catchy, well-produced single that understands exactly what it wants to be. By combining nostalgic R&B influences with modern UK rap swagger, Cabra has created a track that feels familiar, fresh and ready-made for summer playlists.

If this single is any indication of where Cabra is heading next, he’s moving in the right direction.
